CMA CGM FidelioThe container ship CMA CGM Fidelio caught fire on 15 nautical miles off Ibiza, Spain. The vessel was en route from Valencia to Malta, when flames erupted in the superstructure. The fire started from personal appliances in accommodation area, but the crew took immediate actions and started firefighting. The accident was reported the accident to the local authorities and the Salvamento Maritimo Spain was ready to assist, mobilizing two rescue boats and being in contact with the duty officer. The container ship CMA CGM Fidelio stopped engines and remained adrift off Balearic Islands during the firefighting. After about an hour the crew succeeded to extinguish the flames by own means without need of authorities assistance. The container ship CMA CGM Fidelio resumed voyage to Malta, where will be surveyed.

The extends of the damages caused by the fire and the root cause are unknown, but will be assessed during the safety inspection at the port of destination. During the fire there were no injured people and no reported water pollution.

The container ship CMA CGM Fidelio (IMO: 9299642) has overall length of 348.00 m, moulded beam of 43.00 m and maximum draft of 10.30 m. The deadweight of the vessel is 113,964 DWT and the gross tonnage is 107,898 GRT. The container carrier was built in 2006 by Hyundai Heavy Industries in Ulsan, South Korea.
